Corner Desk Setup That Maximizes Every Inch of Space
An L-shaped corner desk setup that uses every inch of available space with dual monitors, a built-in drawer unit, and clean cable routing. Total cost: $1,460.
This setup is built into a corner. I have two walls meeting at 90 degrees and I wanted to use both. The corner desk layout gave me 349 total inches of desk surface that a straight desk can’t provide. Total cost is $1,460.

The Desk: Bush Furniture Cabot L-Shaped at $349
I chose the Bush Furniture Cabot L-Shaped Desk as the base. The L-shape provides a main work surface and a return wing. The main wing is 60 inches wide. The return is 43 inches. Both run at standard desk height. The built-in hutch option I skipped: it restricts monitor height and blocks natural light. The Cabot’s dark finish photographs well and holds up to daily use. The assembly is straightforward with numbered hardware bags.
Corner desks have one real challenge: the corner itself. The inside corner where the two wings meet is dead space. Arms can’t reach it comfortably. Monitors placed there require turning 45 degrees to view. I use the corner for a small plant and the computer tower. Active workspace stays on the two main wing surfaces.
Monitor Placement: Dell S2722DGM ($249) and Samsung 1080p ($149)
I place the Dell S2722DGM 27-inch Monitor on the main wing directly in front of my seated position. This is the primary monitor for active work. The Samsung 27-inch 1080p Secondary Monitor sits at the start of the return wing, angled about 30 degrees inward. I view it with a slight left head turn. It displays email, Slack, and a secondary browser window.
The VIVO Dual Monitor Arm Stand at $49 holds both displays. The freestanding arm base sits in the corner where the two wings meet, which actually puts it in good position to extend arms in both directions. One arm reaches the main wing. The other reaches toward the return. The corner dead zone becomes the mount point.
Using the Return Wing
The return wing hosts my notebook, pen tray, and a second keyboard for occasional use. When a colleague uses the desk, I can hand them the return wing position without them crowding the main workspace. This shared-use advantage is unique to corner desks. The IKEA SKADIS Pegboard at $29 mounts to the wall above the return. Headphones, a small calendar, and sticky note pads hang there instead of cluttering the return surface.
Cable Routing in a Corner
Corner desk cable management is more complex than a straight desk. Cables from two wings need to converge at a single power source. I ran the main wing cables along the back edge to the corner. From there, a single bundled cable run drops behind the right ALEX-equivalent unit to the Under Desk Cable Tray at $19. The power strip sits in the tray. All cables reach it cleanly.
The BenQ ScreenBar Monitor Light clips to the Dell primary display and provides the main desk lighting. The monitor arm position puts the ScreenBar above the keyboard zone at the correct distance.
Chair: Herman Miller Cosm at $315
The Task Chair Herman Miller Cosm is a different ergonomic approach than the Aeron. It auto-adjusts as you shift position. No manual settings needed. For a corner desk where I shift between main wing and return regularly, the auto-adjustment follows naturally. At $315, it’s the mid-range Herman Miller option. The build quality and long-session comfort justify the price over a budget task chair.
What I’d Change
The VIVO dual monitor arm in the corner position is stable but the base is bulky. A wall-mounted dual arm would be cleaner and free more corner space. The Bush Cabot desk finish chips at the corners after several months of regular contact. A furniture edge protector applied early would prevent this. The Samsung secondary monitor is 1080p while the Dell is 1440p. The quality difference is visible when switching between them. Matching monitors would be better.
